TWO BIG WINS FOR HAYES POWERSPORTS

Chaney Crowned King of the Hammers

The King of the Hammers is the quintessential proving ground for off-road racing. The Southern California event brings together the top, most diverse group of off-road drivers in the world. That includes the deeply talented band of UTV racers, stretching from short course, rally, and rock racing.

Hayes-sponsored driver Kyle Chaney once again stood atop the KOH rock pile, winning his fourth straight KOH UTV Championship last week. Chaney, the top qualifier heading into the showdown, had a healthy lead over the field for the first two and a half hours.

A flat tire slowed the defending champion and his co-driver, Cash LeCroy, down enough for the field to close the gap, but Chaney was able to pull away and drive his new Can-Am Maverick R to the finish.

“We ended up getting a flat about halfway through the rocks,” Chaney said after the race. We didn’t know how close the other guys were behind us, but we knew the rain was coming, and we wanted to get through the rocks as fast as we could.”

Chaney, who also competes in the AMSOIL Championship Off-Road short-course series, has been instrumental in developing and promoting the Hayes Sovren line of calipers for short-course and trail applications.

Bunke Racing Wins Historic Soo 1-500

Hayes Powersports topped the podium last weekend at the 55th running of the historic Soo I-500. Taylor and Boe Bunke, along with Aaron Christensen, won the sport's most grueling event, covering the 500-mile, 500-lap race in 8 hours, 41 minutes, and 46 seconds.

The Bunke Racing team overcame a mid-race crash that put them three laps behind the leaders, but they worked their way to the lead with a late race surge. For Christensen, it marked his seventh time being part of a winning Soo I-500 team. It was Taylor Bunke's fourth career win.

"We ended up just putting our heads down and going to work because we didn't really have much to lose at that point," Christiansen said about the  Everything worked really good, so it was just a matter of putting in good laps and just charging to the front, and it worked out in our favor."

The Bunke Racing team has been one of the top teams in snowmobile racing for decades. They have recently partnered with Hayes to develop and validate the Pro Float Rotor, Stealth 88 Master Cylinder, and Phantom Brake Pads.
